Ideas for Democrats 2008 - A Start

Here are some things that I think ought to be included in our advocacy:
- Some real ideas on health care that don’t include the insurance industry – Ginny Reel (my wife) suggests that we advocate for Federally, and locally, sponsored free clinics. Something that could compete with the current system, without replacing it. That way we let the free market decide, and we cover the health needs of those currently left outside the system. We must re-focus our debate on the fact that health CARE is the issue, not health insurance.
- Another of Ginny’s ideas, real economic stimulus in the form of regulation of credit card percentage rates and fees – if we paid less to our credit cards, we could pay them off more easily, and begin to bail out the economy through saving, spending what we’ve got, and real economic stability.
- A platform of true inclusion – the Democratic Party must take a strong stand for the rights of all Americans, regardless of skin color, ethnicity, gender, or religion. Why minorities of any group would vote anything but Democrat is astounding, and why we would vote for the politics as usual, is even more astounding. We need to let everyone know that Democrats in general, and the Obama campaign especially, will stand for all Americans equally.
